WES Construction completed the Remote Headworks Shaft Access Improvements for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), a unique project requiring a strong team with specialized skill sets. This project involved work at both the Ward Street Headworks and the Columbus Park Headworks.

WES was tasked with removing the concrete covers, metal grating, supports, and cast-iron pipe, installing new precast-on-site removeable concrete shaft covers with access hatches, and furnishing and installing all required conduits and wiring.

WES developed and executed a difficult pumping/bypass plan to lower the effluent levels in the shaft in order to perform necessary work. WES expertly coordinated with teams of subcontractors and MWRA employes to safely complete this work.

Despite the unique and challenging tasks on hand, the WES team rose to the occasion and made this project a huge success.
