In the heart of urban Charlestown / Boston, the police sub-station station was built nestled between the Tobin Bridge, Harvard-Kent School, commercial businesses, and residential homes.
This was a “green project” using the latest energy saving technology, including a passive solar wall for heating, a unique sunshade to passively cool the community room and offices, and a gray water recycling system with underground storage to reuse non-potable water. This was a difficult project with deep caissons and very thick foundations and slab.
